I work within the Digital Delivery Team at HDFT as a Project Manager and throughout the 8 years I’ve worked at the Trust I’ve had various interactions with the Active Against Cancer service. This included helping them move on to the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR), trying to help them become a paperless service and more recently when someone close to me used the service as a patient. Throughout all of those interactions I have to say that the people working in that service are truly extraordinary and patient care is the focal point of all of the work they do. I’ve had the privilege to observe some of the classes they hold and the interactions they have with the patients are truly inspirational.
So I’ve decided that it’s time to challenge myself and to raise some money for this wonderful service. I will be attempting to walk (and also run some of it) the entire 375km (233 miles) throughout the month of August.
By supporting my fundraising, you will help make a difference by supporting the great work that the Active Against Cancer Team do on a daily basis for patients living with cancer. The service is part of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and is delivered by a dedicated team of highly specialised, friendly trainers and physiotherapist who specialise in exercise and cancer care.
Exercise plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body and mind. It has been well researched that regular exercise can improve outcomes in many chronic diseases including cancer. Active Against Cancer is a NHS run service, free to anyone with a diagnosis of cancer in the Harrogate area and provides:
- Bespoke programmes tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
- Personal consultations with a specialised Physiotherapist.
- Tailored exercise classes and guidance around exercising with cancer.
- Assessment and classes at Harrogate Sports and Fitness Centre, as well as, at-home programs when needed.
